Lewis Hall (Notre Dame)

Lewis Hall is one of the 29 residence halls on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Lewis is located on God Quad, directly north of the Main Building (the Golden Dome), east of the Grotto, and south of St. Joe Lake. == History ==
Built in 1965, Julia Lewis provided funding for the construction, and the building was dedicated in honor of her husband, Frank Lewis, a Chicago philanthropist. Lewis Hall served as a residence for Sisters pursuing graduate degrees before the University admitted women with one exception. Before there were undergraduate women housing at Lewis Hall one women, a true pioneer - the first undergraduate women accepted at ND - Mary Ann Proctor lived with the graduate students and nuns. In 1972 Lewis Hall became an undergraduate residence hall . Notable past residents include Anne Thompson '79 (NBC news reporter). With over 250 residents, Lewis is one of the largest women's halls on campus.〔http://housing.nd.edu/undergraduate/residence-halls/lewis-hall/〕
